天涯海角社区 is proud to announce a new 18-credit academic minor in Latina/o/x Studies. The minor is offered through the School of Arts & Social Sciences and will begin enrolling students in Spring 2023.
Latina/o/x Studies is a growing and popular field across colleges and universities, enabling students to develop a solid background in the complex history, literature, music, film, and intellectual traditions of Latin American communities in the United States. According to the Dean of the School of Arts & Social Sciences, Heath Bowen, 鈥淭he minor is in keeping with the College鈥檚 overall commitment to social justice and providing an equity-minded curriculum to serve all students.鈥�
Furthermore, recent job trends have demonstrated that multicultural awareness is essential for students hoping to expand their employment possibilities, particularly for those interested in a career centered on the advancement of Latina/o/x rights and in providing complex solutions to issues facing this community. Dean Bowen sees the minor as 鈥渁n ideal complement to virtually any major at the College, including such seemingly disparate majors as Management and Criminal Justice.鈥�
